Mr. and Mrs. Madison

October 29, 2007

Today’s issue of “The Breeze” has a nice feature on Mr. and Mrs. Madison, Chris Ellis and Shannon Thacher. Lindsay Dowd, chair of the selection committee, said, “They embody what JMU means.” Both winners have been actively involved in campus organizations and community service, and their comments demonstrate how much Madison has changed their lives.

My, my, how you’ve grown!

October 12, 2007

Received a link this morning to a Richmond Times-Dispatch article about the changes seen on our campus since the university’s founding in 1908. It’s a great read and offers a mini-lesson on just how much our society as a whole has changed in the last 100 years. Check it out!

The book “Madison Century,” which chronicles JMU’s first 100 years, will be released in December. You can order your copy now at a presale price. The “Daily News-Record” has been publishing excerpts online from the book, and I’ve posted those links on “MadisonOnline Features.” Check out today’s excerpt on how the university came to be named “James Madison University” — it’s a fascinating read!

This morning’s “Breeze”

October 8, 2007

I was happy to see “The Breeze,” JMU’s student newspaper, comment on “Be the Change” this morning. Writer Jake Chandler encourages our students to consider the Teach for America program as a way to be the change in today’s world. JMU already has a great reputation for producing Peace Corps members. Teach for America is another significant way to make a difference in the world, right here in our communities. Good point, Jake!
